Description: The parks inventory database includes over 100 fields of information about assets present at the City’s parks. The previous inventory conducted ten years earlier relied on a paper based field data collection approach, followed by data entry into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. To improve the efficiency of field data collection, and eliminate the need for double-transcribing of the data, HDR proposed the use of the Collector for ArcGIS software on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet computers. The tablet computers were equipped with 3G wireless service which allowed them to access HDR’s ArcGIS Online corporate account from within anywhere in the City. Field crews used the Collector for ArcGIS form-based electronic data collection method to quickly and easily capture the required inventory data directly into the geodatabase stored in the cloud via ArcGIS Online. Appropriate geodatabase coded domains and domain ranges were established for the point feature service used in Collector to ensure that only valid values were coded by field crews. As the parks inventory data were entered by field crews they were automatically transmitted via the 3G connection for storage on the ArcGIS Online site. Both the contractors and the City staff monitored the collection effort in real-time using an Operations Dashboard for ArcGIS tool established for this effort. This point feature class contains park boundaries, names and acreages.
